St. Mary’s National School

Green Flag – We were delighted to receive the good news last week that An Taisce has awarded us another Green Flag. Biodiversity is the fifth Green-Schools Theme and looks at steps which can be taken to increase awareness of the importance of native plants, animals and habitats, and to increase species-richness in a locality. We wish to thank all our present pupils for their commitment and dedication over the last two years. We embarked on different and differing projects and together we played our part in making St. Mary’s Central N.S. more biodiverse friendly. It was a very interesting journey. Well done to the Green Schools Committee and our whole school community for their great work. It would be very remiss of us not to extend our genuine appreciation to the boys and girls who left us in June 2016.  They started us out on this journey and undoubtedly their enthusiasm and zeal spurred us on to achieve this award. Taimid fíorbhuíoch do chach.

Cumann na mBunscoil

Our U13 Hurling Team recently played Kilsheelan and held them to a draw. On Tuesday 2nd May we returned to the field and won our game against Ballylooby.  Well done to all involved.

Active Schools Week

This was Active Schools Week in St. Mary’s. On Friday we wrapped up the week with a Skipathon in aid of Down Syndrome Ireland.  We are very thankful to the Parent’s Association for helping us to organise this fun afternoon.

In other Active Schools news, we are embarking on a 6 week running programme where the overall aim is to improve fitness levels throughout the school. Parents are welcome to view our weekly progress on the Active Schools Board in the hall. We started our laps last Tuesday week and we’re off to a flying start having covered over 600km. Nach deas a bheith óg!

Swimming Classes will commence for Rang 1, Rang 2 & Rang 3 on Wednesday 10th May in Clonmel Pool.

Parents Association A.G.M. will be held in St. Mary’s Central N.S. on Tuesday 9th May @ 8.30p.m. All are welcome.

Laudato Sí: Care of Our Common Home

Pope Francis recent Encyclical Laudato Sí encourages us to care for the earth.  A Programme of awareness-raising and training is planned for the month of May 2017.  Workshops are being held in Cabragh Wetlands on Sat 6th, 13th, 20th & 27th May  from 10am to 1pm with light lunch provided. This can have a positive impact in a variety of ways and the workshops would hopefully   support people in deciding what steps, large or small, could be initiated in their own parish communities     regarding environmental issues.  If you are interested in participating in this programme please contact the Diocesan Office (0504) 21512 or email
