Cooleagh Church

Cooleagh is a civil parish in the barony of Middlethird.  This old church which is dedicated to the Assumption of The Blessed Virgin Mary, can be found about two fields left of the Killenaule/Fethard road, approximately a quarter of a mile past Coolbawn crossroads.  It was built of limestone and sand mortar and it is impossible to ascertain the original dimensions of the building.  The west gable still stands although some of it is broken away at the north side wall.  The south side wall remains attached to it but this appears to be of a greater length as can be seen from the foundation.  On this wall there is an arched doorway which is seven feet six inches high and four feet nine inches broad at the top.
